JOB SUMMARY:    As a member of the senior leadership team, the Vice President, Operations for the blood center is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing and optimizing all operational aspects of the organization. This individual will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient collection, processing, testing, storage, and distribution of blood products while adhering to regulatory standards and promoting a culture of safety and quality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned):

  1. Operational Strategy: Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance operational efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance, and meet organizational objectives.
  2. Process Improvement: Continuously assess and refine operational processes to streamline workflow, reduce costs, and enhance productivity without compromising safety or quality.
  3. Resource Management: Efficiently manage human, financial, and technological resources to support operational goals and ensure optimal utilization.
  4. Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain rigorous quality assurance protocols to safeguard the integrity and safety of blood products throughout the supply chain.
  5. Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of relevant regulations and standards governing blood banking operations, ensuring full compliance and readiness for inspections and audits.
  6. Vendor Management: Cultivate and manage relationships with vendors and suppliers to secure high-quality products and services at competitive prices.
  7. Risk Management: Identify potential risks to operations and implement proactive measures to mitigate them, safeguarding the continuity of blood supply and organizational reputation.
  8. Team Leadership: Provide strong leadership and guidance to operational staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  9. Performance Monitoring: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor operational performance, analyze trends, and drive data-driven decision-making.
  10. Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement comprehensive contingency plans to ensure the organization’s readiness to respond effectively to emergencies, disasters, or crises.
  11. Stakeholder Communication: Maintain open and effective communication channels with internal stakeholders, including executive leadership, staff, and board members, as well as external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies, donors, and partner organizations.
  12. Community Engagement: Collaborate with community organizations, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to promote blood donation, raise awareness of the organization’s mission, and foster positive relationships.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:  

  1. Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  2. Extensive experience (15+ years) in operations (preferably blood banking), with progressively increasing levels of responsibility and leadership.
  3. Strong understanding of regulatory requirements in an operation’s environment to include Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP).
  4. Proven track record of successfully leading operational initiatives, driving process improvement, and achieving measurable results.
  5. Excellent analytical skills and ability to leverage data to inform decision-making and drive performance improvement.
  6. Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve organizational goals.
  7. Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  8. Effective communicator, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  9. Demonstrated commitment to quality, safety, and ethical practices in healthcare delivery.
  10. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and effectively manage competing priorities.
  11. Certification in blood banking or healthcare management is a plus.
