JOB SUMMARY:    As a member of the senior leadership team, the Vice President, Information Technology (IT) for the blood center is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and management of all technology-related initiatives to support the organization’s mission and objectives. This individual will play a critical role in driving innovation, efficiency, and data security within the blood center’s IT infrastructure while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned):

  1. IT Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive IT strategy aligned with the organization’s goals and objectives, leveraging technology to enhance operational efficiency, support growth, and improve patient care.
  2. Systems Development and Integration: Oversee the design, development, implementation, and integration of information systems, software applications, and technology solutions to meet the evolving needs of the blood center.
  3. Infrastructure Management: Manage the organization’s IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, storage, and telecommunications systems, to ensure reliability, scalability, and performance.
  4. Data Management and Analytics: Establish data governance policies and procedures to ensure the integrity, security, and privacy of sensitive information, while also harnessing data analytics to drive informed decision-making and optimize business processes.
  5. Cybersecurity and Compliance: Implement robust cybersecurity measures and protocols to protect the blood center’s digital assets and sensitive information from internal and external threats, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  6. IT Operations and Support: Provide leadership and direction to the IT operations team, overseeing day-to-day activities, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring timely resolution of IT-related incidents and service requests.
  7. Vendor Management: Cultivate and manage relationships with technology vendors, service providers, and consultants to procure and implement IT solutions that meet the organization’s needs, budget, and quality standards.
  8. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Develop and maintain comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity plans to minimize disruptions to IT services and operations in the event of emergencies, disasters, or system failures.
  9. Technology Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact on the blood center’s operations and exploring opportunities for innovation and strategic investment.
  10. Staff Development: Recruit, develop, and mentor a high-performing IT team, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth.
  11. Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with executive leadership, departmental heads, and other stakeholders to understand their technology needs, communicate IT initiatives and priorities, and solicit feedback to inform decision-making.
  12. Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage the IT department’s budget, allocating resources effectively to support strategic initiatives and ensure the cost-effective delivery of IT services and solutions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  2. Extensive experience (10+ years) in information technology leadership roles, with a proven track record of driving IT strategy and managing complex IT environments, preferably in the healthcare or life sciences sector.
  3. Strong understanding of healthcare IT systems, including electronic health records (EHR), laboratory information systems (LIS), blood bank information systems (BBIS), and related regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, CLIA).
  4. Expertise in cybersecurity principles and practices, with experience implementing security controls, conducting risk assessments, and managing security incidents.
  5. Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools, with demonstrated experience leading large-scale IT projects from inception to completion.
  6. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  7. Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate future IT needs, identify opportunities for innovation, and develop actionable plans to drive organizational growth and success.
  8. Certifications in relevant IT disciplines are highly desirable.
