CBC donates more than 2,800 pounds of turkey to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin

December 20, 2022

More than 140 local blood donors helped ensure blood was available and area families were provided food over the Thanksgiving holiday at The Community Blood Center’s (CBC) Season of Giving blood drives. CBC kicked off its Season of Giving with blood drives in Appleton, Oshkosh and Green Bay on Nov. 18. For every presenting blood donor, CBC donated a turkey to local families through a partnership with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. Thanks to the generosity of blood donors, more than 2,800 pounds of turkey were donated.

“It’s important for us

to have enough blood on the shelf going into the holiday season to ensure blood is available to local patients who need it,” said Kristine Belanger, Vice President, Operations, and Chief Operating Officer, The Community Blood Center. “By partnering with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin for the Season of Giving blood drives, we broadened our mission of connecting lives and sharing life beyond blood donation—helping to save lives and feed local families this past Thanksgiving.”

Blood donors were also encouraged to bring a canned good to their appointment. More than 50 pounds of canned goods were collected and donated to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.

“The Community Blood Center did more than help save lives this holiday season, they helped save the tradition of a holiday meal for so many local families facing hunger. We are grateful for their support of our mission and our community,” said Lisa Endl, Director of Marketing and Communications, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.

CBC is grateful for the organizations who helped make these blood drives possible, including the Community First Champion Center, Father Carr’s Place 2B and St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish and extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated volunteer blood donors who donated.
