Blood donors help send more than $25,000 worth of blood collection supplies to Ukraine

June 23, 2022

Thanks to the generosity of local volunteer blood donors, more than $25,000 has been raised to help offer assistance in providing blood collection supplies to Ukraine. The Community Blood Center (CBC) joined blood centers across the nation in this effort as many critical blood donation supplies have been destroyed during the war in Ukraine.

For every blood donation collected between May 27 and June 12, CBC made a monetary donation to the effort. During that timeframe, more than 2,500 people volunteered to donate blood to help both patients right here at home and in Ukraine. As a result, CBC donated more than $12,000 which was matched by Fresenius Kabi, a vendor in the blood collection and transfusion industry – totaling more than $25,000. This money will go toward purchasing and delivering the most needed items.

“We are so appreciative of the incredible generosity within our community,” said John Hagins, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Community Blood Center. “By donating blood during this effort, community members not only helped save the lives of patients here at home, but they also helped patients in a country greatly suffering due to war. We are honored to have been a part of this campaign and the opportunity to support blood collection needs in Ukraine.”

This campaign is a joint effort of America’s Blood Centers (ABC), Blood Centers of America (BCA) and Fresenius Kabi. CBC is a member of ABC and BCA, networks of independent community-based, not-for-profit blood centers. While CBC’s part in the campaign has been completed, Fresenius Kabi will continue matching monetary donations through June 30.
