Jada

October 28, 2021

Growing up, Jada saw firsthand what donating blood could do for a family. She remembers, as a young girl, her mother having to go in for blood transfusions. She doesn’t remember exactly why her mom needed blood transfusions often, but does remember wondering what it’s like and where the blood came from.

“She would always be needing blood,” said Jada. “What motivates me to keep giving blood is knowing there are so many people like my mom who need blood. It gives me a good feeling knowing I’m helping somebody just like somebody helped my mom.”

That’s what keeps Jada wanting to donate blood. Her journey of helping those in need began in high school. She was a member of student council throughout her high school years and was in a group that would organize blood drives. When she was old enough, she then became a donor herself. Her passion for blood donation and supporting patients who rely on transfusions continues today.

“Everyone wants to do their part in doing something good, and it’s not always something huge that you have to do, but it’s the little things that add up,” she added. “Giving blood is something very small but it’s something that could make such a huge difference.”

DONATE

Being from Chicago, Jada’s glad to see an opportunity for more people to give in the area through The Community Blood Center. As a blood donor herself and a blood donor advocate, she understands the impact it can have on patients in need.

“We need more people to advocate for doing something so selfless and giving blood. I think it’s important to have things like this in different communities, especially communities who might not be as well informed as others on this kind of stuff. If we reach out to everybody everywhere, it will make such a difference,” said Jada.

She believes the more people realize the impact donating blood can make, the more people are going to want to do it. Jada continues to spread the message in hopes she can help others the way others helped her mom.
