“I am thankful for blood donors because I am able to be alive, be a mother to my three children and be here for my family,” expressed Heather.
At 27 weeks pregnant with her third child, Heather was admitted into the hospital due to a condition called placenta percreta. This occurs when the placenta penetrates through the uterine wall and attaches to another organ. “It was an intensely scary situation for myself and my whole family,” she shared.
Heather delivered her daughter, Ella, at 27-weeks-old. Ella was in the neonatal intensive care unit for about 72 days. Due to Heather and Ella’s condition both received blood products. “Without Ella and I being able to receive blood, neither of us would be here,” added Heather. “Ella is able to grow up, have a healthy life and be a part of our family as well.”
