National Marrow Donor Program

You could be the missing piece!

The Community Blood Center is a donor center in the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP) Network.

The NMDP facilitates blood stem cell transplants for patients with life-threatening diseases such as leukemia and aplastic anemia, as well as certain immune system and genetic disorders.

As the NMDP donor center in the Fox Cities, the Community Blood Center works with local civic, community, corporate and faith-based organizations to raise awareness, educate and encourage people to join the NMDP Donor Registry. The NMDP Donor Registry is the world's largest, most racially diverse registry of volunteer donors for patients who do not have a suitable donor in their families.

When a volunteer from our community is identified by the NMDP as a match for a patient, your donor center representative at Community Blood Center guides the donor throughout the donation process.

To discover how you can become a member of the National Marrow Donor Program National Registry, call Cheryl at (920) 738-3131, ext. 3012.

To be on the Registry for the National Marrow Donor Program, you must:

·        Be between the ages of 18 and 61.

·        Be of good general health (no autoimmune diseases, back, neck or spine problems).

·        Commit to the program and know that you may NOT be the match for a person you know, but may match someone who is in the same need.

·        Make an appointment, at which you will complete a Registration form and complete a mouth swab.

You can also help cancer and leukemia patients by donating platelets while you're waiting to become a match.  Because a patient usually needs chemotherapy or radiation, these processes kill the platelets and will need to be replaced.  They are the cells that stop you from bleeding and have a shelf life of only 5-7 days. To make a difference in someone's life and get more information about donating platelets, call us at (920) 738-3131, ext 0.
