Program, The Community Blood Center proudly serves
the community with the Be The Match RegistrySM.
People of our community can become members of
Be The Match Registry that helps provide hope for
patients in need of a marrow transplant. Everyday
more than 6,000 patients search the registry to find
their lifesaving match…you could be the match!
Be The Match Registry is operated by the National
Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP). For over 20 years,
the NMDP has been helping patients with leukemia;
lymphomas (and other life-threatening diseases)
receive the unrelated marrow transplants they were
looking for. Physicians depend on the
Be The Match Registry to find a match that gives
their patients hope.
Saving Lives through Growing a Diverse
Registry
Matches come from people with the same race
and ethnic heritage as the patient in need. Only
1.8 of the 7 million people on the Registry have
a racially or ethnically diverse heritage.
Increasing the diversity of tissue types on the Registry
increases the chances for all patients to get the
life-saving transplant they so desperately need.
Fortunately, we have funding to cover the cost of
tissue typing for racial and ethnic minorities. If you
are a minority, we strongly encourage you to join!
The Cost of Tissue Typing
There is always a cost for tissue typing, whether it
is paid by an individual, a sponsor or
Be The Match. No one can join for free.
The costs are $100 to test the tissue type of every
new Registry member and that's why we need your
financial support. Your contribution makes it possible
for more people to join the Registry and for us to
save more lives.
When we get funding from individuals and/or
sponsors, we offer tissue typing at a reduced fee.

organizations, churches and other groups. The
Marrowthons provide easy access to joining the registry
and the convenience of having us come to you.
